U.S. semiconductor giant Analog Devices is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire AI-focused chipmaker Empower Semiconductor in a deal valued at approximately $1.5 billion in cash, according to a Bloomberg News report citing sources familiar with the matter. The potential acquisition highlights the growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure and power-efficient semiconductor technology as companies continue investing heavily in generative AI and data centers.
Empower Semiconductor, based in Silicon Valley, specializes in power management chips and voltage regulators designed for artificial intelligence processors and high-performance data centers. Its technology plays a critical role in improving energy efficiency and power delivery for AI workloads, an area that has become increasingly important as the AI industry expands rapidly.
The report stated that the acquisition announcement could come as early as Tuesday, although neither company has officially confirmed the negotiations. Reuters noted it was unable to independently verify the report. Representatives for Analog Devices and Empower Semiconductor did not immediately respond to media requests for comment.
Analog Devices, headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, is a major semiconductor manufacturer serving industries such as aerospace, automotive, industrial automation, and communications. The company has recently benefited from strong semiconductor demand, especially in sectors linked to artificial intelligence and data center expansion.
Earlier this year, Analog Devices projected second-quarter financial results above Wall Street expectations, driven by increased customer demand for its chips and advanced semiconductor solutions. Investor confidence has also strengthened, with Analog Devices shares rising more than 50% year-to-date.
If completed, the Empower Semiconductor acquisition would further strengthen Analog Devices’ position in the fast-growing AI chip market and enhance its capabilities in next-generation power management solutions for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
