Blockchain Technologies Corp. (BTC), a New York-based blockchain and cryptocurrency software technology company and startup accelerator, has announced that it will be the sole provider of balloted election services to the 2016 Libertarian Party of Texas State Convention and will use its secure blockchain voting system.
The convention, to take place in San Antonio from April 8-10, is comprised of four distinct elections: Candidates for Statewide Office, Candidates for Delegates to the Libertarian National Convention, Candidates for Statewide Officers, and the State Libertarian Executive Committee.
BTC has filed a non-provisional utility patent titled ‘System and Method For Securely Receiving And Counting Votes In An Election’. The patent pending election system process uses the blockchain for an extra level of security not found in any other voting solution.
“Blockchain Tech Corp. has developed patent pending Blockchain voting technology that works the same way voters are already used to, but behind the scenes adds the power of the Blockchain ledger ensure all votes are counted correctly and cannot be altered, enabling honest and fair elections and polling”, the website reads.
The voting process begins with tried and true paper ballots, eliminating any voter confusion about how to cast vote and ensuring that there is an indisputable audit trail, as physical paper ballots remain the ultimate document of record.
Once the votes are counted by BTC's proprietary ballot scanning software, a snapshot of election results are instantly uploaded to the blockchain at the time they are tabulated. This in turn allows for a transparent, independently-verifiable audit trail that enhances and backs up the paper ballot records. As blockchain-based records are time-stamped and signed, post-election fraud is rendered virtually impossible.
