Bitcoin Code Veteran Jeff Garzik Opposes Hard Fork For Bitcoin Block Issue

Jeff Garzik, the bitcoin code expert continues to oppose a hard fork solution to bitcoin scaling challenge. Garzik involved with individuals on Twitter recently who were as well opposing hard fork.

To develop blockchain features Garzik launched code-for hire service called bloq. He has voiced his disappointment to those people who have proposed using technically inferior systems to increase the block size. He said bitcoin has to be used by millions of people and said that he supports increasing the block size beyond 1 MB.

Talking about SegWit, Garzik tweeted that, ‘SegWit needs to be a hard fork. Putting control of -economic resource size- in the hands of a few devs & miners is anti-bitcoin.’ Although such an upgrade by Segregated Witness will require users to agree to the rule change, the solution would work as key to bitcoin’s purpose and benefits.

Last December, co-founder of Blockstream Pieter Wuille, presented the SegWit proposal at the Scaling Bitcoin Hong Kong. Unlike other  proposed solutions, SegWit can be introduced to the network as a soft fork as well. This avoids bitcoin software users, the need to upgrade their clients in near-unison.

According to Garzik’s view, the soft fork is not an inclusive solution and that is where few miners and developers approve changes to bitcoin economics. A miner and founder of KnC Sam Cole claimed saying that the SegWit soft fork is more straightforward for everyone involved. But not for developers involved with interacting with bitcoin wallets.

Many supporters say Segwit could provide an increase in network capacity over a short time frame.
