Coinbase to support any cryptocurrency that customers want to use, says CEO Brian Armstrong

San Francisco-based digital currency platform and wallet Coinbase has announced that it has added support for Ethereum, adding that it will support cryptocurrencies that its customer base wants to use.

Brian Armstrong, the co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, made the announcement on Reddit. He wrote:

“We have now added support for ethereum as well on Coinbase, and may add others. We are looking to support any cryptocurrency that our customers want to use, and my hope is that one of them succeeds massively, reaching billions of people over the coming years. I'm very interested in have digital currency scale, and I agree that ethereum seems to be doing a much better job at this than bitcoin right now. But the future is still unknown”.

In May, Coinbase added Ethereum trading on GDAX, its professional digital asset exchange. Later in July, it announced that it is adding support for Ethereum, allowing users to buy, sell, send, and store Ether in their Coinbase account. The integration is now complete.

The announcement drove the ETH/USD pair to a two-month high of 13.10 levels. Ethereum is the second most valued cryptocurrency with market capitalization over $1 billion.

As Armstrong suggested that the platform will add support for any cryptocurrency demanded by its users, Redditors seem almost unanimous for the platform to add support for ‘Monero’.

Formerly known as ‘BitMonero’, Monero focuses on privacy and scalability and according to latest reports there has been surge in its adoption in the darknet marketplaces. It is currently the fifth most valued cryptocurrency with market capitalization around $118 million.
