“Cyberpunk 2077” is one of the running contenders gunning for 2020’s Game of the Year Award. CD Projekt Red touts that the title will provide an immersive experience that will pull players in for hours on end.
To achieve this, the developers are employing the 40-second rule on “Cyberpunk 2077” to ensure that players always see something unique in the game. The principle surfaced when Projekt Red created “The Witcher 3.”
The 40-second rule is where players always see something of interest in the world of “Cyberpunk 2077” whether they’re NPCs, enemies, or potential point of interests, Wccftech reported. Other games have achieved this too but in varying time scales.
Cyberpunk 2077 developers said they value quality over quantity
For instance, “RDR2” ensure that players are always seeing an NPC, enemies, or focusing on beautiful vistas while traversing through the map, but the gap here is 87 seconds. With “Cyberpunk 2077” created as a much more condensed map compared to the “Witcher 3,” the developers are able to cram these point of interests in proximity.
What’s more, even though the game is absolutely massive with huge vertical scaling, the developers assure that they value quality over quantity. What this means for “Cyberpunk 2077” is that the points of interest will always offer something engaging to players be it some sort of lore or a new quest.
Different forms of quests in Cyberpunk 2077
The quests themselves have been categorized into four groups: main quests, side quests, minor quests, and street stories. The first two is self-explanatory. The third one is missions that only lasts for a couple of minutes or so, which ties to the aforementioned rule. The fourth one is “Cyberpunk 2077” missions that are similar to the monster quests found in “The Witcher 3.”
As its name suggests, completing Street Stories will increase a player’s street credentials, which will provide varying advantages depending on tiers. Also, to ensure that the map of “Cyberpunk 2077” is as efficient as they come, the developers hired an urban planner to oversee its creation.
“We approached it very holistically; we started with very big ideas of the city and then went into detail and detail and detail and detail. We have an urban planner in the team, for instance, which really helps us with the map and the layout to make the city feel very realistic,” said Marthe Jonkers, senior concept artist, and coordinator of the game. “Cyberpunk 2077’ is slated for release on April 16, 2020.
