There is only a little more than a month left before “Diablo 2: Resurrected” launches, and Blizzard Entertainment has officially released details for its open beta tests. The good news is, aside from the early access open beta, the developer confirmed that a public test would follow later this month.
‘Diablo 2: Resurrected’ open beta details
Both rounds of open beta tests are scheduled to run for two separate weekends this month. As usual, early access is not available to all fans and is offered as an incentive to those who have pre-purchased the game.
The “Diablo 2: Resurrected” early access open beta will kick off on Friday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. PT and will run until Tuesday, Aug. 17. Those who pre-purchased the game or owns the Diablo Prime Evil Collection will have guaranteed access to this test. It will be available on Windows PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players can start pre-loading the game on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
Those who are still on the fence about paying for the “Diablo 2: Resurrected” or the collection do not have to buy anything to experience the game before its launch. Blizzard confirmed that a public open beta available to all fans on the said platforms is also taking place and will begin on Friday, Aug. 20. This is going to be a little bit shorter, though, as it is scheduled to close on Monday, Aug. 23. For the public open beta, pre-load will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 18.
“Diablo 2: Resurrected” is confirmed to launch on Nintendo Switch, but Blizzard confirmed that the early access open beta and the public test would not be available. As an incentive to Switch players who have pre-purchased the game, the developer said it will give away a free Heritage of Arreat to fans on this platform.
‘Diablo 2: Resurrected’ release date
As expected, the “Diablo 2: Resurrected” open beta tests will only feature limited gameplay features. For example, the game will have seven playable classes at launch, but only five of them are available during the beta tests – the Amazon, Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, and Paladin.
“Diablo 2: Resurrected” is currently slated to launch on Thursday, Sept. 23. And it is going to be the first game that Blizzard will release after the California authorities sued Activision Blizzard last month over a string of alleged sexual harassment cases.
