Dormant Bitcoin Giants Awaken: $383 Million in 8-Year-Old BTC Moves as 2026 Supply Surge Intensifies

Following dormancy for more than eight years, a wave of long-dormant Bitcoin wallets has moved around 4,905.98 BTC, worth about $383 million. The transfers are consistent with a rising trend of old addresses waking up in 2026, including coins from the 2010s. This activity draws attention to the regular reappearance of early Bitcoin assets instead of fresh supply coming on the scene.

Big movements from dormant wallets can be a sign of custody reorganizations, over-the-counter transactions, or maybe future selling pressure. In this instance, instead of from newly mined or frequently traded assets, the coins came from long-silent addresses, which alters the usual market interpretation. Traders pay attention to whether these funds finally show up on exchanges since direct deposits would show a greater negative attitude than just wallet-to-wallet transfers.

This occurrence is not unique. Several comparable awakenings have happened in 2026, such as over 5,000 BTC transferred in May alone and 2,819 BTC after eight years of inactivity. The repeated reappearance of dormant supply points to a continuous cycle of old coins returning to circulation that may cause on-chain overhang that should be watched for its possible effects on Bitcoin's price and liquidity.
