Dunkin’ Donuts is reportedly getting rid of its Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich. It was said that the donut and coffee shop chain will no longer add this to its menu list.

As per Fox Business, Dunkin’ Donuts confirmed on Wednesday, June 23, that its plant-based Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich is going away and will not be offered in its outlets anymore.

Dunkin’ and Beyond Meat partnership

It was in late 2020 when Inspire Brands acquired Dunkin' Donuts, and it was around that time when the donut and coffee chain started to add the Beyond Sausage Sandwich to its menu list. It also offered an option for the same plant-based item but not as a sandwich but a wrap.

This “meatless” sandwich option was made available in the company’s 9,000 outlets across the United States. As reported, this vegan item will not be in stores anymore, but it was later clarified that several Dunkin’ Donuts outlets will still offer this menu.

The reason for the pullout is said to be low sales turnout. Anoori Naughton and Ken Goldman, analysts from JPMorgan, allegedly said that the Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich was removed from the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants because it did not do well when it was in stores.

"We personally enjoyed the Beyond Sausage sandwich at Dunkin’ and thought it was one of BYND’s best, but apparently it did not sell as well as expected," the pair reportedly said via a note to CNBC.

"There is always a chance that the item will return; however, the locations said that to the best of their knowledge, there were no plans for this to take place in the immediate future," Goldman added.

Dunkin’ shed light on the reports

Dunkin’ Donuts responded to the reports regarding Beyond Meat and seemed to suggest that it will only be gone in some stores but will still be available in other outlets. The company said that it would maintain a strong relationship with Beyond Meat and added that they would continue to work together for more plant-based items that customers are looking for.

Finally, while Dunkin’ Donuts already explained that the Beyond Meat sandwich is still available in some locations, it was reported that the manufacturer of plant-based meat alternatives saw its shares slip. It was said that the decrease happened after the report about Dunkin’s removal of the Beyond Meat sandwich surfaced.
