“Final Fantasy 7 Remake” is without a doubt one of the most highly-anticipated games in recent memory, but gamers have to understand that it is not coming out anytime soon – not when director Tetsuya Nomura is still busy with “Kingdom Hearts 3.” So while waiting, fans may want to check out a book that will take them deeper into the world introduced in the classic role-playing game.
Written by Matt Leone and designed by Rachel Dalton, “500 Years Later: An Oral History of Final Fantasy VII” is the perfect stopgap option for fans who have been waiting for “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” as it features exclusive illustrations, several standalone interviews, and a foreword by “Final Fantasy” creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.
“500 Years Later offers a thrilling deep dive into the creation of the revered PlayStation RPG. Comprising over 30 interwoven voices, this beautifully produced book will offer unprecedented insight into the craft and ambition behind the game,” the official description reads.
“Final Fantasy 7” was first released in 1997 and rumors of a remake had been spreading for several years already before Square Enix confirmed they actually have plans to develop a remake of the game. Earlier this year, Nomura told The Verge they were already working on “Final Fantasy 7 Remake.”
“We are developing [Final Fantasy VII] in parallel, and it’s not just in the early concept stages. We are actually in development,” Nomura said. “So right now, it’s like I’ve been putting in 100 percent into Kingdom Hearts, 100 percent into Final Fantasy VII, 100 percent into Kingdom Hearts... just going back and forth.”
At the moment, “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” is probably nowhere near complete so fans will have to be patient. More details will likely be revealed once Nomura frees up his schedule after the release of “Kingdom Hearts 3” in January 2019.
