‘Finding Dory’ finally featuring Pixar’s First Lesbian Couple? Sequel Gets Back-to-Back Screening with ‘Finding Nemo’

Disney-Pixar's 'Finding Dory' featuring Ellen DeGeneres as Dory

‘Finding Dory’ is speculated to feature Pixar’s first ever lesbian couple and erupted in controversy among fans of the franchise. Meanwhile, it is set to get a back-to-back screening with the preceding film ‘Finding Nemo’ on the night before the premiere.

According to The Daily Mail, the upcoming sequel to 2003’s animated comedy-adventure film ‘Finding Nemo’ is set to feature the first ever lesbian couple from the studios of Pixar. The new trailer released last week caught people off-guard when an extremely brief shot of a seemingly LGBT couple was pointed out by an especially keen-eyed viewer. Some fans expressed their support for the new film while others declared to boycott it.

Twitter erupted in polarizing remarks with some users exclaiming in glee over Pixar’s allegedly first-ever film representing the LGBT community while others questioned the clip’s relevance as just two random women standing together during a scene that featured Hank the octopus in a baby stroller.

The upcoming sequel will feature the voices of Ellen DeGeneres as the titular Dory the amnesiac pacific regal blue tang, Albert Brooks as Marlin the clownfish, Idris Elba as Fluke the sea lion, Diane Keaton as Dory’s mom, Eugene Levy as Dory’s dad, Ed O’Neill as Hank the octopus, Kaitlin Olson as Destiny the whale shark, Dominic West as Rudder the sea lion, and Ty Burrell as Bailey the beluga whale.

DeGeneres herself came out as a lesbian in 1997 and is known to be the LGBT community’s biggest supporters. This fact may have prompted people to fan the flames of the new rumor. Disney-Pixar has yet to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, Disney-Pixar announced that on June 16, audiences will be treated to a back-to-back screening of both ‘Finding Dory’ and ‘Finding Nemo’. According to Comingsoon.net, the latter will be screened in the one-night event before ‘Finding Dory’ hits big screens for the first time in June 17.

‘Finding Nemo’ was received with critical acclaim upon its premiere on May 2003 and became the second highest-grossing film of the year with $936.7 million earned at the worldwide box office. According to the report at Box Office Mojo, it earned an estimated $70 million on its opening weekend. The film had a production budget of $94 million.

‘Finding Dory’ follows the story of a friendly yet amnesiac blue tang who reunites with her family while meeting new friends along the way. It is directed by Andrew Stanton and Angus McLane and produced by Lindsey Collins with John Lasseter executive producing.
