Rockstar Games was one of the developers that actively participated in the Sony PlayStation events earlier this year that lead to the announcement of a “GTA Online” standalone release slated for next year. The launch will also include several perks that only PlayStation players can enjoy.
‘GTA Online’ release date, pricing
The announcement of the “GTA Online” standalone release was made along with the confirmation that “GTA V” will be expanded and updated to match the technical power of next-generation consoles. Not much has been announced for both games since June, but “GTA Online” is confirmed to be sold separately sometime in the second half of 2021.
Rockstar Games have yet to reveal how much the standalone “GTA Online” would cost and what gameplay content will be available upon launch. This week, the developer’s other popular multiplayer online game “Red Dead Online” is also turning into a separate game instead of just being a game mode within “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
“Red Dead Online” is launching at an “introductory” price of $4.99 until Feb. 15, 2021. From that point, it will be sold at its regular price of $19.99. Rockstar also confirmed that all current and future content for the online multiplayer will be accessible to those buying its standalone version. However, considering that “GTA Online” has been around much longer than “Red Dead Online,” it remains to be seen if all its content, especially the heists, will also be included in its standalone release. “GTA Online” is also, technically, a bigger game so it is difficult to determine for now if its regular price will also be at $19.99.
‘GTA Online’ perks for PlayStation players available now and in the future
As for the PlayStation perks, no matter how much “GTA Online” is going to be, it will be playable for free on PlayStation 5 for the first three months. Since its announcement in June, Rockstar also launched a promo for PS Plus subscribers playing the online multiplayer on PS4 that gives them GTA$1,000,000 every month until the release of the “GTA Online” standalone game.
Rockstar is launching the newest “GTA Online” heist on Tuesday, Dec. 15 set in an island called Cayo Perico. The main objective is to “infiltrate the remote island compound of the world’s most notorious drug dealer” in the game and return safely to Los Santos. The developer describes the newest heist as the “biggest” ever to be released for the online multiplayer.
