Boxing fans are looking forward to the upcoming fight of welterweight champs Errol Spence Jr. and Shawn Porter on Sunday, Sept. 29. But for spectators who also like to think about future blockbuster matches, it is difficult not to speculate that whoever wins this weekend could be the next opponent of Filipino boxing icon Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao next fight predictions

Pacquiao already had enough major fights for 2019 after he demolished Adrien Broner in January and Keith Thurman in July. But the athlete-politician has been very clear that retirement is not on the cards for him yet. As a result, boxing fans and analysts are constantly trying to predict who gets to fight him next.

The upcoming Spence vs. Porter match is also important because it is a unification fight. Porter has the WBC welterweight belt while Spence is the reigning IBF champion of the same division. Whoever wins on Sunday night leaves Staples Center in Los Angeles, California as a welterweight champion of two major boxing organizations. And this might also be the same reason why Pacquiao’s next opponent can be narrowed down between Porter and Spence.

Manny Pacquiao’s next possible opponents

Pacquiao currently holds the WBA welterweight title. And choosing to fight whoever wins in the Spence vs. Porter event makes the most sense for PacMan. It should also be noted that Porter and Spence have said they want to face the Filipino boxer sometime in 2020 as they both look forward to closing 2019 with two welterweight belts. On the other hand, if Pacquiao’s camp decides to surprise boxing fans, WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford could also be a possible opponent for the Filipino boxer.

At age 40, Pacquiao is a few years older than most active welterweight boxers. But that does not erase the fact that he remains the only boxer who became an eight-division champion in the history of the sport. Thurman’s words before he lost to Pacquiao made it clear that defeating the Philippine senator on the ring means so much more than just snagging a title belt from him.
