McDonald’s teamed up with Krispy Kreme for its latest menu experiment. Through the collaboration, the burger joint just added Krispy Kreme doughnuts to some of its select store outlets.
According to Fox Business, shares of the doughnut company and coffeehouse chain soared by around seven percent in the intraday trading after the news of its partnership with McDonald’s.
The addition of the Krispy Kreme donuts in the restaurant’s stores is part of a trial scheme, and the test is set to start on Oct. 26.
Customers of McDonald’s will find three Krispy Kreme donuts on the menu and these are the original glazed, raspberry-filled donut, and chocolate iced with sprinkles donuts. The new treats will be available throughout the day for diners and drive-thru customers.
It should be noted that this will only be offered in nine McDonald's stores within Louisville, Kentucky and the nearby areas. The donut company said that the move is a small operation test for now and customers can order donuts in a box of six or individually. The flavors could be mixed as well.
If the test goes well, McDonald’s US may decide to continue and make Krispy Kreme donuts part of its menu offerings. The results will help the company make decisions for its menu list in the future.
“We are excited to share some sweet news from our friends at McDonald’s and we are partnering with it on a small-scale test to offer three doughnuts, including our iconic Original Glazed doughnut, at McDonald’s restaurants in Louisville, Ky., and the surrounding area,” Krispy Kreme said in a press release.
The donut and coffee chain added, “This is our first partnership with McDonald’s in the US as we constantly look for new ways to increase access to fresh doughnuts through our delivered fresh daily network – a key element of our omnichannel strategy to attain 50,000 points of access globally.” i
Meanwhile, CNBC reported that the trial comes at a time when consumers have been trimming their visits to restaurants due to surging inflation which affects everyone’s budget. Through this experimentation, the restaurants are hoping to encourage people to return and dine again.
