Mercedes-Benz previously revealed its plans to set up charging hubs for electric vehicles and mentioned that it is targeting North America, China, and Germany. Now it was reported that the German automaker has finally launched its first EV charging station in the U.S.
Mercedes-Benz was able to complete its charging hub in cooperation with ChargePoint Inc., an electric vehicle infrastructure company. With this facility, the company is aiming to offer a fast, reliable, and the best charging experience for drivers of not just the Mercedes cars but all brands of EVs.
The Premium Charging Hub
Mercedes-Benz is a known luxury brand of vehicles and just like what it was known for, its first EV charging station in the U.S. is also considered grand. This is because it also houses a comfortable driver’s lounge, vending machines, restrooms, and areas to relax.
As per Electrek, the EV charging hub will be a place where drivers can recharge their vehicles fast. It is set in a very convenient location - close to retail and service centers. It is also along the highway to make sure that drivers can spot it easily. The place is 100% powered by renewable energy thus there are solar canopies in the location.
Upcoming Additional Charging Stations
Mercedes-Benz shared that it will add more charging stations across the U.S. It will start the expansion with hubs at Buc-ee’s travel centers in the following locations: Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Alabama.
The automaker is looking to complete the EV charging centers in these areas before year’s end. Finally, with assistance from both ChargePoint and MN8 Energy, Mercedes-Benz will build more charging stations in convenience stores and Simon malls in 2024.
"The Mercedes-Benz Charging Network expands global charging options for customers of all EV brands to promote clean, electric mobility,” Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG’s chairman of the board of management, Franz Reiner, said in a press release. “In North America, our strategy is clear: focusing on where EV drivers are and where they are going to enhance the North American EV charging map while setting new standards for quality and customer experience. These efforts will pave the way for greater EV adoption here in North America and around the world.”
Mercedes-Benz HPC North America LLC’s president and CEO, Andrew Cornelia, further stated, "With the official launch of the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network in North America, we aim to set a new standard for a quality charging experience for the entire industry. Our driver-first network will deliver some of the fastest charging speeds and will be openly accessible to all EV drivers from day one."
