Naver Corp. (KS:035420) shares surged on Monday after the South Korean technology giant announced a major artificial intelligence partnership with NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA). The news fueled strong investor optimism, sending Naver stock up nearly 14% to 290,500 won, significantly outperforming the broader market as the KOSPI index fell almost 9%.
Under the new agreement, Naver and NVIDIA will work together to develop advanced AI infrastructure across South Korea. The partnership will focus on building large-scale AI factories, including next-generation data centers designed to support growing demand for artificial intelligence services and applications.
The companies revealed plans to launch an initial 55-megawatt AI infrastructure project, with long-term ambitions to expand capacity to gigawatt-scale levels. The initiative will leverage NVIDIA’s DSX platform to accelerate AI computing capabilities and strengthen South Korea’s position in the global AI ecosystem.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, stating that Naver is creating AI factory infrastructure that will benefit businesses, developers, and entire industries. The project is expected to play a key role in delivering sovereign AI capabilities, enabling South Korea to build and operate advanced AI systems using domestic infrastructure.
The first phase of the initiative will include an expansion of Naver’s Gak Sejong data center located in Sejong City. Beyond data center development, the two companies also plan to collaborate on physical AI technologies for enterprise operations and surveillance applications.
Naver, South Korea’s leading internet search company and co-owner of the LINE messaging platform, has been expanding its artificial intelligence portfolio in recent years. The company has invested heavily in AI innovation, including the development of its proprietary HyperCLOVA X large language model.
The announcement comes during Jensen Huang’s visit to South Korea, where NVIDIA has also unveiled partnerships with major Korean companies including SK Hynix and Doosan. These collaborations underscore NVIDIA’s growing commitment to advancing AI infrastructure, semiconductor technology, and industrial AI solutions throughout the region.
