Google is expected to announce the Pixel 5a anytime soon, but the leaks keep coming, and the latest detail may have revealed crucial information. The next mid-range phone, per a new report, might ship with the biggest battery capacity ever on a Pixel phone.
Pixel 5a specs rumors
A new report from Android Police says that phone parts for the Pixel 5a have been sent to repair shops leading to a new set of leaked live photos recently. The new leak includes a battery labeled for “Google Pixel 5a.”
The supposed Pixel 5a component also comes with packaging where some information is written, including its “typical capacity” of 4680mAh. While this is not much information, it is still an important find and suggests that the upcoming device could be a worthy upgrade.
The 4680mAh battery capacity, if accurate, would be a major bump from any other Pixel phones that entered the market since 2016. It does not just exceed the battery specifications of previous Google A-series phones as this capacity is more than any flagship Pixel phone. The latest model, Pixel 5, shipped with a 4080mAh battery only. Its predecessor, Pixel 4 XL, came out with an even smaller 3700mAh battery.
Meanwhile, there might not be an increase in the Pixel 5a’s fast-charging capacity. The leaked component is marked with an 18.01Wh charging capacity, per the same report.
The same leak also shows other supposed Pixel 5a components, such as a device housing and chassis. The same source reportedly noted that the back case feels “a little more rubbery” compared to the plastic finishing of earlier released Pixel models.
Design leaks have previously suggested that the Pixel 5a will not get major design tweaks, and the recent report seems to corroborate that. However, the power button appears to have a few details instead of just a plain surface.
Pixel 5a release date
Google has been anticipated to announce the Pixel 5a this summer, or more specifically, sometime this month. A previous rumor suggested that the device will not launch until Aug. 26. However, the same report mentioned above claimed that the mid-range phone could be announced earlier on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
