A new report adds to many others that have claimed Samsung will no longer use Tizen as the operating system of its next series of wearable devices. The Galaxy Watch 4 series is also rumored to include up to three new watches sporting classic and sporty designs.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 OS and design
There have been many reports over the last few months that have been insisting the Galaxy Watch 4 will be Samsung’s first wearable device to run on a new operating system. The more exciting detail in SamMobile’s recent report suggests Samsung is also developing an “entirely new version” of the One UI skin specifically designed for the upcoming watches.
The same report claims it can confirm that a “One UI 3.x” version is planned on top of the Wear OS adoption. This might translate to better integration with Samsung Galaxy phones running on the latest versions of One UI. But how these changes will exactly affect the look and performance of the Galaxy Watch 4 series is still up to fans’ imagination.
While reports have often mentioned Galaxy Watch 4 and a new Galaxy Watch Active, Samsung is believed to be working on up to three new wearable devices that could launch in the coming months. The watches are reportedly codenamed Wise, Fresh, and Lucky. Based on the brief descriptions, Wise would be the standard classic-looking watch that features a rotating bezel. Fresh and Lucky are expected to don sporty designs that could be part of the next Active-named lineup of watches.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 features
The new report mentioned that new SmartThings features are expected to be added to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Samsung’s ecosystem goes beyond phones, tablets, and laptops. It is then not surprising that further integration of SmartThings functions on the wearables is part of the company’s plan this year.
The addition of health monitoring features, including blood sugar tracking, is also widely rumored for the Galaxy Watch 4. But the rumor mill has had conflicting reports on whether or not this will become a reality this year.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 release date
The release date of Galaxy Watch 4 is the part where the report does not have certain information, but SamMobile predicts the new watches could be announced with the new Galaxy foldable phones. Earlier this month, Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy S21 FE are planned to be launched simultaneously in an Unpacked event in August.
