Taylor Swift is set to star in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical “Cats.” Webber’s work is based on T.S. Elliot’s collection of poems “Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats,” an assortment of whimsical works regarding feline sociology and psychology.
Taylor Swift, being a cat lover herself, made headlines when she was cast as part of the film’s ensemble, Fox News reported. At first, it was assumed that the “Blank Space” singer is going to play the all-white ballerina feline, Victoria.
The assumption comes amidst news that Lloyd Webber presumably wrote a new song for the part. However, it was recently revealed that Taylor Swift is going to play one of the Macavity girls instead. Details have yet to be announced so it’s still not known whether the pop superstar will play Demeter or Bombalurina.
Tom Hooper – the director spearheading the film – was the one who thought it was a good idea to include Taylor Swift in the cast. Lloyd Webber himself agreed but admitted he has yet to see the singer in action, which is why he’s looking forward to meeting her.
The film will start production in November so other cast members are preparing to play their respective roles. Among those who are included in the ensemble are Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Ian McKellen. And speaking of McKellen, a bogus story is going around that Taylor Swift is “walking on eggshells” around the veteran actor.
Globe (via Gossip Cop) claimed that Taylor Swift is terrified of her 79-year-old co-star as the old actor was apparently “throwing his weight around the set.” This premise alone is enough evidence to label the story as hilariously inaccurate since, as said earlier, the movie is still in pre-production and filming will start in November.
So how can McKellen throw his weight around the set when he hasn’t even stepped foot on it? What’s true about the actor is that he’s trying to learn how to “sing and move in a feline way” as a means to prepare himself for the role. As for Taylor Swift, it’s safe to say that the “Red” singer is also doing some preparations of her own, although she has yet to reveal what they are.
