Tesla Model 3 is considered as the company’s entry-level offering, so it plays a huge role in Tesla’s goal of expanding is customer-base in various regions outside the United States. A few weeks since the Model 3 arrived in Australia, reports have it that the company has shipped thousands of units in the region. Meanwhile, China-made cars are expected to become available soon following the leaked photos allegedly taken from the Gigafactory 3.
Tesla Model 3 surpass 2,400 units shipped to Australia
From mid-August to early September, the arrival of Tesla Model 3 in the land Down Under was one of the most talked-about events in the region’s car industry. It now appears that Tesla is banking on that and aiming to sell a couple of thousands of its entry-level vehicle in a matter of months.
A source of The Driven reports that, as of this week, Elon Musk’s company has shipped exactly 2,414 Tesla Model 3 units from the United States. Earlier reports indicate that some were delivered to its owners before August ended while most units seemed to have been delivered this month. Tesla has yet to confirm the official figures.
The number of shipped Tesla Model 3 units to Australia is impressive, considering that the region is seeing a decline in overall new car sales for 17 consecutive months now. The latest Status of EVs report by the region’s Electric Vehicle Council indicate that out of 1,939 surveyed local respondents, 45 percent have researched on EVs while 51 percent are considering to buy an electric car.
The Australian EV community have more to celebrate other than the numbers reported on Tesla Model 3 shipments. The Electric Vehicle Council also reported that only 2,216 electric cars were sold in the region last year, but that number already increased by 90 percent within the first half of 2019 alone.
Tesla Model 3 trial production in China kicks off
One of the updates to watch out for in 2019 for Tesla fans is the opening of the Gigafactory 3 situated in the Pudong District of Shanghai, China. The factory is anticipated to start its operations before 2019 ends and reportedly can produce 250,000 cars per year, including Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.

A photo leaked online indicating that a Tesla Model 3 is seen on the assembly line in Gigafactory 3. Tesla has yet to announce the official opening of the factory, but the same source claims that China-made Tesla Model 3 units are could be delivered by November.
