George RR Martin failed to release “The Winds of Winter” not once but many times before. He was not able to meet his deadlines which resulted to the disappointment of his fans.

While there are people who are still patient even if GRRM has not published “The Winds of Winter” yet, nine years since the release of the fifth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, there are many others who have voiced out their frustrations already. They have harshly criticized the 72-year-old author and accused him of not being concerned for his readers.

They told him he has a lot of time to do his hobbies and other projects but he seemed to have forgotten that he still needs to finish “TWOW.” They also pointed out that there is no use even if he stayed isolated in the mountains because he only watches football there anyway.

Martin gives an update

Now, it appears that George RR Martin has responded to the criticisms when he posted a new entry on his blog. He laments that it seems many of his fans don’t read his page because they are not aware of his efforts to finish the sixth book in the “ASOIAF” series which is “The Winds of Winter.”

He told fans that he is working on the book and assured them that he is making big progress. Although he may have bad days, he is completing chapters, revising some, or editing the sequence of the story.

“Let me assure you that, when not sweating out election returns or brooding over other real-world problems, I have continued to work on ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER,’” Martin wrote on his blog page.

He said, he hasn’t stopped working on “TWOW” but also admitted that it is still far from being done. Martin also explained why it is taking time for him to complete the much-awaited book sequel.

“No, sorry, still not done, but I do inch closer. It is a big, big book,” he added. “I write a chapter at a time, a page at a time, a sentence at a time, a word at a time since it’s the only way and sometimes I rewrite.”

Predicted publishing time

As per Winter is Coming, “The Winds of Winter” may be published next year since the final manuscript is estimated to be completed in about 11 weeks. This means that after Martin finishes writing the book, it is only then that the counting of weeks will begin.

There will still be a series of editing and the entire publication process will take some time. Once everything is done, “The Winds of Winter” will be out on the shelves of bookstores.
