But while many tourists fly in and stay at resorts located further along the coastline, Alicante itself is definitely worth spending some time exploring. This port city has a popular, busy city beach overlooked by the stunning Mount Benacentil, which is home to Santa Barbara Castle. The marina is perfect for an evening stroll and there are loads of gorgeous tapas bars to visit in the old town. Alicante is a popular option on many customizable tours of Spain.

Be sure to visit Sacromonte, white caves on the hillside where flamenco dance and music were brought to life by the original gypsy dwellers.

Seville:

The capital of Andalusia, Seville is the place to be if you want to immerse yourself in thriving flamenco culture. There are tons of intimate flamenco bars that are often putting on shows, where you can really appreciate this passionate and dramatic form of art. Be sure to visit the Real Alcazar, an excellent example of Mudejar architecture that has been added to over the years by various Spanish rules. And, don’t forget to check out the Metropol Parasol, a massive wooden structure that’s perfect for getting some shade in the hot summer.

Madrid:

The capital of Spain makes the perfect destination for a weekend break, and you can travel from Barcelona to Madrid by train. The golden triangle of art galleries is home to some of the most famous works of art in Europe. Madrid is also home to the Royal Palance, the largest palace in Europe, and there are new attractions, churches, bars, and shops to discover at every corner.

You might immediately think of package vacations and beaches when you think of Tenerife. But, located off the coast of West Africa, this popular Canary Island has so much more to offer. With otherworldly volcanic peaks and lunar landscapes, there’s certainly plenty of breathtaking views to be had. Be sure to visit Mount Teide, which is located in the Teide National Park and the highest peak in Spain. In the park itself, you can find some of the most unique geological gems in Spain with craters and ancient lava flows to explore.
