WISeKey International Holding Ltd, a leading cybersecurity company, has announced its intention to launch a Blockchain Centre of Excellence in Mauritius in order to develop a blockchain platform in the country.
According to the official release, the announcement was made during the WISeKey’s participation at the Mauritius Investment Board Blockchain event and aims to deploy a Trusted Blockchain as a Service (BaaS) platform in a move to assist the Mauritius Government to create a blockchain ecosystem.
“We strongly believe that the Blockchain Center of Excellence will disrupt business flows and processes across different industries in Mauritius and will position the country as one of the Blockchain Platforms and Hubs,” Carlos Moreira, Founder and CEO WISeKey said.
The Blockchain Centre of Excellence will help in positioning the country as a significant active player in the blockchain space. This dedicated centre will be conducting research, rapid pilot prototyping, co-creation of use cases and IP creation on blockchain-based solutions.
WISeKey plans to cooperate with the local companies on grounds like building points of view, policies, and proof of concepts among others. It will also cooperate in educational materials like addressing blockchain potentials across schemes including public, consortium and private with domain specialization like IoT, transactions and messaging.
The company will work with professionals from government, industry, and academics in order to address the most relevant blockchain developments in businesses with solutions that are practical and standard based, using available blockchain technologies.
Earlier in June, the company released a special edition of the Digital Identification and cyber-resilience app - WISeID that integrates blockchain technology. WISeKey will be localizing in Mauritius at the development of WISeID. With the help of WISeID Blockchain app, users are in control of their digital identity stored on their mobile, IoT sensor or computer.
