Walmart Plus members can now enjoy a free benefit as the company added the Paramount+ streaming service. This is part of the offering for every membership at Walmart+, and it can be availed without any cost.
This means that even with the new Paramount Plus streaming service, the subscription rate for Walmart Plus will not increase and will remain the same. With the additional perk, all subscribers can start streaming thousands of shows and live sporting events via Paramount's streaming.
As per Fox Business, the availability of Paramount Plus is effective immediately, so all that Walmart Plus members should do is set up an account with Paramount+ Essential Plan, and streaming will instantly begin. The retail giant said that this perk is the most anticipated by its members, and it is being considered a direct competitor for Amazon Prime.
The membership for Amazon Prime also comes with different benefits, including the Amazon Video service, which comes with free gaming and viewing of original programming. However, Amazon Prime recently implemented an increase in its membership rate, and it now costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. The company said the hike was due to inflation.
In any case, rates for Walmart's program that offers discounts on gasoline and free shipping of items will still be $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Even with the new Paramount+ streaming benefit, these rates will still apply.
"Today's kickoff marks a brand-new chapter for Walmart+ and the possibilities available for our existing and new members," Walmart Plus' senior vice president and general manager, Chris Cracchiolo, said in a press release. "It is pretty simple for us – our Walmart+ members asked for a streaming benefit, and we absolutely delivered with Paramount+. This is just one more example of how Walmart+ can add value to our members' lives day after day."
Paramount Streaming's chief strategy officer and chief business development officer, Jeff Shultz, also said, "We are incredibly excited to officially offer the unrivaled Paramount+ entertainment portfolio to Walmart+ members today and by bundling Paramount+ in the Walmart+ membership program we are able to further broaden the reach of Paramount+ to connect fans who have been shopping our brands at Walmart for years with the content they love to stream."
