Worldcoin has expanded its World ID service to the Solana blockchain through Wormhole’s cross-chain protocol, enhancing privacy-first user authentication. This new integration makes it easier for Solana developers to incorporate World ID in decentralized apps while maintaining cross-chain compatibility.
Worldcoin Expands ID Service
The Wormhole Foundation's new cross-chain protocol will allow Worldcoin's World ID to integrate seamlessly with the Solana blockchain, according to an announcement made by Worldcoin on September 13.
A Worldcoin blog article states that the Wormhole Foundation finished the cross-platform bridge in just 2.5 months after they were announced as recipients of the Wave1 Community Grants.
Privacy-Prioritized Verification on Ethereum
Global ID is based on Worldcoin's World Chain, a layer-2 Ethereum chain. Its principal function is to serve as a human verification service that prioritizes privacy. Decentralized applications (DApps) and other services can be accessed securely and authenticated using it, all without revealing any personal information about the users.
Developers on the Solana network will have an easier time incorporating World ID identification into their decentralized applications (DApps), according to Cointelegraph, thanks to the integration, which also makes them compatible with services on the Ethereum chain.
New Step for Identity Verification
According to Wormhole Foundation co-founder Robinson Burkey:
“Bringing World ID to Solana is a big step forward for identity verification. With the integration of World ID and Wormhole Queries, developers can now easily build applications that prioritize real users across chains, improving trust in decentralized ecosystems.”
Worldcoin data shows that as of July 31, 2024, the company had 6,630,191 million users. Since its inception on July 24, 2023, the number of users of Worldcoin has steadily increased. However, it is unknown how many of these people actually participate in the DApp economy via their World ID login.
