The iPhone 13 series will be released in a week, but the rumor mill is not done yet. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently added weight to previous reports that there will be a shake-up in the offered storage options for the 2020 iPhones.

iPhone 13 storage options

It has been reported for months that some, if not all, iPhone 13 models will ship with an all-new 1TB storage option. However, this may be the first time that Apple fans are hearing the iPhone 13 mini and base model iPhone 13 are also getting a slight change in their memory configurations.

Kuo’s investor note released on Sunday, obtained by 9To5Mac, indicated that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will still be available in three storage options. But 64GB is not one of them. Both devices are reportedly launching with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. If Kuo’s prediction tracks, it would be the first time Apple is launching an iPhone series without a 64GB model.

Meanwhile, Apple has already nixed the 64GB configuration on the iPhone 12 Pro models last year. The tech giant is expected to do the same for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, and Kuo adds to a list of analysts and leakers that have reported on the existence of a 1TB iPhone 13 model.

However, the addition of a 1TB storage option does not mean the 128GB configuration is on the chopping block. Based on the same note from Kuo, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max would be shipped in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB models.

It is unclear yet what made Apple decide to only offer 128GB and above storage configurations. But the company may have done so in anticipation that the iPhone 13 series would be handling bigger files than its predecessors did. Leaker Jon Prosser previously suggested that the ProRAW image processing tech could be one of the reasons Apple thought a 1TB storage would be necessary.

iPhone 13 release date

Apple had announced a launch event happening this week. While the company did not say for what product, everyone knows the iPhone 13 series will be one of the announcements. The online event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 14 but the availability date of the iPhone 13 is still unknown.
