Apple is having its first launch event of the year this week and the next generation of iPhone SE, which many also call the “iPhone SE 3,” is one of the most anticipated products to be unveiled. And renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released some predictions on the changes to expect from the device shortly before its supposed announcement.
Kuo, who has been known for having many accurate predictions for upcoming Apple products, posted on Twitter recently to share six predictions for the upcoming iPhone SE. The analyst expects the device to come with three storage options: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB.
If accurate, this would be the first time Apple will offer a 256GB variant for its mid-range smartphone. The first generation of iPhone SE came with 32GB and 128GB versions in 2016. Its successor, launched in 2020, is still being sold on Apple.com with 64GB and 128GB variants.
Kuo also shares similar predictions with earlier reports that the iPhone SE would be powered by a faster processor. But the analyst specifically mentioned the A15 Bionic as the likely chipset for the upcoming phone. It is the same processor currently available in the iPhone 13 series. This particular upgrade lines up with the widely reported 5G adoption, both mmWave and Sub-6GHz, for the SE line.
The analyst also agrees with earlier reports that there is no major redesign to expect from the next iPhone SE, saying that it will sport a “similar form factor design to current SE.” That means the device will still ship with a 4.7-inch display, Touch ID integrated into the home button, and thick bezels.
While Apple has been playing with new color options for its flagship iPhones in recent years, it looks like iPhone SE is not getting the same treatment. Kuo believes the 2022 iPhone SE will still be available in white, black, and red.
In terms of production, Kuo says the new iPhone SE enters mass production this month. Apple is expected to ship 25 to 30 million units of the device in 2022 alone.
Apple fans do not have to wait that long to see if these specs will tally, assuming that the new iPhone SE is part of the company’s event this week. The tech giant’s “Peek performance” showcase is happening on Tuesday, March 8, at 10 a.m. PST.
