The National Bank of Belarus has recently revealed plans about launching two projects using blockchain technology, Forklog reported.
Speaking at the 13th International Forum on Banking Information Technologies "BankIT 2016", Pavel Kallaur, the Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Belarus, shared his opinion on how digital technology will drive economic growth, along with the announcement about the upcoming blockchain experiments.
"In the nearest plans - the launch of two projects using blockchain technology: the development of a registry of bank guarantees and registry of securities transactions", Kallaur said (loosely translated).
The BankIT Forum has been organized by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Scientific and Technological Association Infopark, the Association of Belarusian Banks. It is being attended by the representatives from leading banks in Russia and Ukraine, along with representatives from the Central Bank of Russia, the Central Bank of Kazakhstan, MasterCard, CapSys, FinTech Cluster of Ukraine and others.
During the event, particular attention will be given to the development of blockchain applications in the financial sector, the transition to paperless interaction and the construction of high-quality analysts needed for effective decision-making.
The forum will also hold a “FinTech Marathon” in which select the best fintech startup of the year. The marathon – a joint initiative by the National Bank of Belarus and Infopark – started only this year and aims to combine the traditional financial industry with the latest wave of fintech innovation.
