Entrepreneur India reported that a Seven & i Holdings spokesperson confirmed 7-Eleven’s remaining 31 India stores were closed as of Sept. 30, 2026, ending Reliance Retail’s franchise operation.
Separately, audited accounts for 7-India Convenience Retail Limited, Reliance Retail’s subsidiary and franchise operator, show ₹91.46 crore in revenue from operations and a loss of ₹89.89 crore for FY26, the year ended March 31, 2026. For FY25, the company recorded ₹63.63 crore in revenue and a ₹72.94 crore loss.
Reliance Retail Ventures Limited signed its master franchise agreement with 7-Eleven, Inc. in October 2021 through 7-India Convenience Retail. Reliance said in a release issued Oct. 20, 2021, that its first Mumbai store, in Andheri East, began operating on Oct. 9, 2021.
Reliance’s deal followed an earlier India franchise agreement with a Future Retail subsidiary. A BSE filing by Future Retail said the parties mutually ended that agreement after the subsidiary missed targets for store openings and franchise-fee payments.
ThePrint identified neighborhood kirana shops and quick-commerce services as competitors. ThePrint reported that neither company had publicly given a single reason for the closures. Entrepreneur India reported that Reliance had not issued a public statement and that employees from the stores were being absorbed into its grocery and neighborhood businesses.
Seven & i has left open the possibility of a future presence in India. CNBC reported that a company spokesperson said it was considering long-term options, without naming a partner, operating format or timetable.
