Some Airbnb hosts may stop accepting reservations for a day on Nov. 20 as the platform begins applying limits on checkout chores to new bookings, ABC News reported.

Airbnb announced the revised rules Oct. 20. The company says hosts may not assign checkout work that takes substantial time or labor, or work that cleaners ordinarily perform. The policy depends on when the booking is placed: reservations made Nov. 20 or later are covered even if the stay occurs later. EconoTimes' earlier coverage listed stripping beds, starting laundry, and washing and putting away dishes among the restricted jobs. Hosts may still ask guests to leave dishes in a sink or sort trash and recycling into designated bins.

EconoTimes previously covered the report of a one-day pause in new reservations. That account tied the reported action to the policy's Nov. 20 start date.

In a column published Wednesday, Guardian columnist Arwa Mahdawi described hosts trying to evade the new limits. Mahdawi cited a Facebook post proposing that hosts unlist their properties for a day or two. She criticized the objection to the change and compared cleaning fees and detailed house rules at some rentals with hotel service.

Mahdawi also assessed the dispute against Airbnb's original community-oriented message. She argued that the platform's growth has encouraged property speculation and a stronger focus on profit, while guests may face both cleaning fees and household work. Her column presented those points as reasons some travelers may see rentals as poor value compared with hotels.

The revised limits take effect for new reservations made starting Nov. 20.
