ADNOC Gas and Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) signed an agreement Wednesday to examine gas supplies for new power generation in the Northern Emirates, potentially connecting the producer’s expansion plans with new utility demand.

The announcement describes talks on future supply arrangements, not a committed sale. It names no volume, price, contract term or delivery date, and does not allocate costs between the parties. ADNOC Gas said the collaboration could help it find domestic customers for additional gas expected from its investment program.

The company is developing Rich Gas Development to increase processing capacity and Estidama to improve its pipeline infrastructure. ADNOC Gas says the projects will help it serve current and future customers as more supply becomes available.

EtihadWE Chief Executive Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali said the utility is developing a power portfolio that includes gas-fired and renewable generation. He said the partnership would strengthen its access to long-term gas supplies. The UAE government lists EtihadWE as responsible for electricity and desalinated water services in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The UAE state news agency WAM reported that Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, the country’s minister of energy and infrastructure and EtihadWE board chairman, witnessed the signing.
