ADP Research said U.S. private employers added an average of 18,500 jobs a week over four weeks through Oct. 3, down from 26,000 as monthly employment reports approach.

The earlier average, for the four weeks ended Sept. 26, was first reported as 24,750 jobs a week. ADP raised it to 26,000 in its Oct. 20 release.

The NER Pulse averages changes in private employment across four weeks, so consecutive readings cover overlapping periods. ADP adjusts the estimates for seasonal patterns, publishes them about two weeks after the measured period and may revise them as more payroll data arrive.

ADP’s separate monthly National Employment Report put September private-sector job growth at 90,000. ADP produces both reports with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab.

The next NER Pulse is scheduled for Oct. 27 at 8:15 a.m. ET. ADP’s October monthly report is due Nov. 4 at 8:15 a.m. ET. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is scheduled to release its October employment report Nov. 6 at 8:30 a.m. ET.
