Abra, a mobile-based remittance app, won the Launch Festival as the best-launched start-up for 2015. It is a peer-to-peer dollar denominated payment transfer app that focuses on remittance sector.
The Launch Festival is a three-day annual technology conference organised by Jason Calacanis, an angel investor. The conference focuses on entrepreneurs and the sponsors are able to showcase their products to a targeted audience.
Prior to the festival, there is hackathon as well as Launch 2.0 in which already established start-ups reveal new products for the first time. But the main event is the 1.0 competition in which firms show themselves publicly for the first time. Previous winners include Connect, Boxbee and SpaceMonkey.
