Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Athens for talks and an investment forum, putting economic cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Greece at the center of his visit.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM) said Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis received Sheikh Khaled at the airport. WAM said Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis invited the crown prince and scheduled the visit to begin Oct. 21, with bilateral ties and shared-priority cooperation on the agenda. EconoTimes previously reported the planned visit.

The Greek prime minister’s office scheduled a meeting at Maximos Mansion on Oct. 22, followed by a Greece-UAE investment forum organized by Enterprise Greece at Conrad Athens The Ilisian. Greek outlet OT later reported that the leaders met that day.

The National reported that the leaders agreed to expand a $4 billion joint investment initiative. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Greek prime minister’s office have not confirmed whether a new expansion was agreed or what its terms would be.

The UAE ministry describes an existing €4 billion fund announced in May 2022. It says UAE direct investment exceeded a separate $4.3 billion target set that year. In May 2025, the Greek prime minister’s office said Mitsotakis reported that the investment targets had been reached or surpassed. The fund value and the direct-investment target are separate measures.

The UAE and Greece established a strategic partnership in 2020. The UAE ministry says investment cooperation spans energy, health care and digital infrastructure. In a July 2026 account, it said more than 120 Greek companies had been established in the UAE over the preceding year.

WAM said Investopia Mediterranean – Athens took place alongside the visit, with government officials and business leaders gathering to discuss possible partnerships and private-sector involvement. The Oct. 22 program also included the Greece-UAE investment forum after the leaders’ meeting.
