Acer Inc.’s board appointed Po Po chief operating officer and Wason Shyu chief technology officer, moving duties held concurrently by Chairman and CEO Jason Chen to Po and assigning new leaders to operations and technology development.

The appointments took effect Nov. 5, and both executives report directly to Chen, Acer said. The company said it wants the changes to improve its operations and technology work, with efficiency and innovation among its aims.

Po will oversee global operations for Acer’s computer-products business and coordinate operations management and cross-functional integration. Before the appointment, he oversaw Acer’s global supply chain and electronic-component procurement strategy. The company also cited his experience in new-business development.

Po joined Acer in 2005 and has worked there for about 20 years. An appointment notice listed his previous position as assistant to Acer’s CEO.

Shyu will lead Acer’s technology research and development worldwide, including integration of the company’s technology platforms. His remit also covers software and hardware development. Shyu joined Acer in 2003 and has 28 years of design and research experience in the information and communications technology industry, the company said. His appointment notice listed his previous post as head of Acer’s platform technology R&D unit.

The handoff follows an Aug. 14 company disclosure that the then-COO had resigned effective that day and Chen would take on the duties while continuing as chairman and CEO. The disclosure did not give a reason for the resignation.
