Actinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has put business development executive Sean Maenpaa in charge of licensing and partnerships as it advances targeted radiotherapy programs for cancer.
His appointment took effect Oct. 12, and Actinium announced it Oct. 16. The job includes out-licensing and in-licensing opportunities, partnership and collaboration transactions, plus broader corporate development planning.
Actinium’s portfolio covers solid tumors, blood cancers and conditioning treatments used before bone marrow transplants and cell and gene therapies. The company is testing ATNM-400 in a first-in-human Phase 1 study involving people with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Work with the National Cancer Institute is among the efforts supporting Actimab-A’s development for acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes.
Actinium described Maenpaa as a veteran of oncology dealmaking, strategic marketing and commercial leadership, with more than 20 years in the field. His career includes roles at BWXT Medical, Telix Pharmaceuticals, Clovis Oncology, Bayer, Novartis and Celgene.
The company said BWXT Medical sales Maenpaa supported involved more than $120 million in medical radioisotope supplies. Actinium also linked his Telix work to ILLUCCIX, whose global sales it put at $320 million. The announcement gave no time span for either figure.
Chairman and CEO Sandesh Seth said Maenpaa’s experience with myeloid cancers, alpha therapies and solid-tumor business development fits Actinium’s priorities. Seth described interest among large pharmaceutical companies in targeted radiotherapies, particularly early-stage programs, as accelerating. Maenpaa said he aims to “build partnerships that maximize the value of the platform.” The announcement named no prospective partner, transaction or deal timetable.
