Adani Power’s consolidated profit after tax climbed 141.5% in the July-September quarter, as recognition of revenue from earlier periods added to gains in its ongoing power business. The Indian electricity producer reported profit after tax of ₹7,019.32 crore, compared with ₹2,906.46 crore a year earlier.
The quarter’s accounts included ₹2,422.25 crore linked to electricity supplied in earlier periods, mainly after the company revised past energy-charge calculations under some power purchase agreements. The comparable adjustment a year before was ₹668.53 crore.
The prior-period amount came alongside growth in continuing operations. Continuing revenue from operations, which excludes revenue recognition tied to earlier periods, rose 29.8% to ₹17,014.06 crore. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, on the same continuing basis increased 18.5% to ₹6,320.97 crore. Total reported revenue reached ₹19,950.60 crore, up 39.4%, while reported EBITDA advanced 45.7% to ₹8,743.22 crore.
Adani Power said electricity demand in India grew 11.5% to 502 billion units during the quarter, attributing the rise to economic growth and a weak monsoon. Its own electricity sales increased by the same percentage, reaching 26.4 billion units from 23.7 billion. The company said coal- and lignite-fired plants supplied 66% of power, compared with 65% a year earlier, as hydropower potential was lower.
The company’s fuel bill reached ₹10,229.38 crore, a 41.8% increase. Adani Power attributed the rise to greater fuel use and a 50% increase in the landed cost of imported coal.
For April through September, profit after tax rose 91.4% to ₹11,885.92 crore from ₹6,211.59 crore a year earlier. The company is pursuing 23,720 MW of additional thermal capacity. At Korba Phase-II, the first 660 MW unit has reached grid synchronization, and Adani Power expects commissioning soon. A second unit at the project is expected to be commissioned in Q4 FY27.
