SAN DIEGO, Feb. 12, 2018 -- The Recover releases a new story about the drug epidemic devastating Massachusetts 33 pounds of fentanyl was seized after a 6 month long wire tap in a drug bust in Boston. That is enough fentanyl to wipe out 7 million people which would be more than the entire state of Massachusetts. Last month it was 20 pounds of pure fentanyl in Ohio. In New York, more than 140 pounds of the drug was seized in August. San Diego had a June bust of close to 100 pounds. 60 pounds was seized in April in St. Louis. These mass quantities of drugs could wipe out entire states and then some.

The death toll from opioid overdose is rising at an alarming rate. Rehab centers are equipped to help with a medically supervised detox process. It is dangerous and almost always unsuccessful to attempt detox outside of a professionally staffed facility. The rehabilitation treatment is based on an individual need. The key is to see an increase in seeking help from those who are addicted. Currently, only 10 percent go into treatment. The overdose deaths will continue to increase unless more addicts can take that first step.

There are medications to help with the detox that need to be closely monitored by a doctor.  Having a professional and compassionate staff is another thing to take into consideration. There are drug treatment centers that specialize in helping couples who have made the decision to get sober together. A newer option is starting to become popular due to its growing success and that is Pet Friendly facilities. Dogs have long been known to have a positive effect on those with disabilities, vet’s suffering from PTSD, and terminally ill patients.  It makes sense that being able to bring your own pet or having a facility mascot pet can ease the stress and create a more open atmosphere. With all the options out there, the hope is to see more addicts seeking treatment instead of becoming a statistic. We are in a crisis as a nation and that can be seen in the amount of drug seizures around the country as well as the increasing death toll from overdoses.
