PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 14, 2017 -- Members of the media are invited to attend "Why Women Should Have A Seat At the Table: A Panel Discussion with Global Implications," an event which is a part of the African Bicycle Contribution Foundation's Three-City U.S. Tour, and takes place from September 18 – 25, in Philadelphia, New York City and the Washington D.C./Baltimore area.

The goal of this event is to gather a select group of private-, public-sector, academic and institutional women leaders to facilitate discussions about the opportunities and challenges faced by women in entrepreneurship and leadership positions, here in the U.S., in Africa, and in other areas across the globe. The desired outcome is to explore how they can work together, going forward, in international partnerships.
The panel participants will include globally-recognized West African entrepreneur Ms. Bernice Dapaah, CEO and founder of the Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative (GBBI); Dr. Nina Ahmad, Deputy Mayor of Public Engagement, City of Philadelphia; and Ms. Gerianne DiPiano, chairwoman, FemmePharma Holding Co., Inc./president and CEO, FemmePharma Global Healthcare, Inc. Veteran journalist and attorney Renée Chenualt Fattah will serve as moderator.
Since September of last year, ABCF (www.africanbike.org) has generated funds for the distribution of eco-friendly bamboo bikes made by Ms. Dapaah’s Kumasi, Ghana-based company, in five locations across the West African country, including Accra, Kumasi, Koforidua, Sekyere Afram Plains District and the Brong-Ahafo Region, in Central Ghana.
Despite Ghana’s expanding economic strength and Sub-Saharan-leading political stability, the Ghanaian Statistical Service reports that 30 percent of Ghanaians don’t have a school within their immediate community, and according to UNESCO, school attendance increases by 600 percent for young, rural, Ghanaian girls when they have access to bicycles.
Another recent study points out that Ghanaian small farmers, who have access to bicycles, reduced their commute time to marketplace by 45 percent, and increased their family incomes by 23 percent.
Since 2016, ABCF has been dedicated to alleviating transportation issues for students, healthcare workers, small farmers and teachers, throughout rural Ghana.
