Amazon plans to invest more than €16 billion in Germany in 2027, including €4.8 billion for cloud infrastructure, as Berlin seeks private capital for technology and data centers.

The company announced the plan Oct. 20 at the German government’s Invest in Germany Summit. Amazon said customer demand for cloud and artificial intelligence services is driving its planned expansion of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Europe (Frankfurt) cloud region. It did not provide a spending breakdown for the rest of the 2027 program.

The program also covers logistics, Amazon Leo satellite internet and Prime Video, plus a second Berlin lab for robotics and AI research. Its Prime Video plans call for more than 15 productions in Germany by the end of 2027. Amazon did not assign spending amounts to those areas.

The German government has identified industrial AI and data centers among the sectors where it wants the summit to attract private investment. German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche described high-performance data centers as “the foundation of the digital economy” in Amazon’s account of the event.

Amazon associated more than 3,000 logistics jobs with projects it had announced before the summit. The company did not say how much of its 2027 investment plan would go toward those projects. Its spending announcement therefore does not establish that all of the planned jobs stem from newly announced work.

The plan follows a separate €10 billion investment announcement Amazon made in June 2024, including €8.8 billion for AWS infrastructure through 2026. Amazon says it invested €15 billion in Germany in 2025 and more than €100 billion since 2010. The longer-term tally includes employee compensation as well as infrastructure and technology spending.

Amazon expects upgrades at its Bad Hersfeld, Dortmund and Werne logistics facilities to finish in 2027. Work at Koblenz, Pforzheim and Rheinberg is scheduled to continue through 2028.
