Former Yum! Brands CEO David W. Gibbs will join Amgen’s board, taking it to 13 directors and adding experience from a global restaurant business to the drugmaker’s oversight group, the company said.

Amgen said the appointment took effect Oct. 26. Gibbs will serve on the Audit Committee and the Compensation and Management Development Committee. The company said 12 of the 13 directors will be independent.

Amgen shareholders elected 12 directors at the company’s May 19 annual meeting, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission the next day.

Gibbs led Yum! Brands from 2020 to 2025. Amgen said he oversaw the restaurant operator’s shift toward digital business as its global network grew to nearly 61,000 locations.

Gibbs has served on Under Armour’s board since 2021 and chairs its Human Capital and Compensation Committee. PepsiCo added him to its board in 2026, where he serves on its Audit Committee.

Amgen Chairman and CEO Robert A. Bradway said Gibbs’ experience with customer relationships could help shape plans for future launches and efforts to make treatments available to more patients.

Yum! Brands named Chris Turner as Gibbs’ successor in June 2025, with Turner taking the CEO post Oct. 1. Yum! said Gibbs would remain an adviser through 2026. An SEC-filed exhibit lists Sept. 30, 2025, as the end of Gibbs’ officer and board positions at the company.

Amgen did not disclose compensation or other costs associated with the board appointment.
