Anadolu Agency reported that the son of Likud’s founder urged Israeli voters to deny Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu another term ahead of the Oct. 27 parliamentary election.
Under Israel’s party-list system, voters choose lists for the 120-member Knesset rather than directly electing the prime minister. A government must secure parliamentary backing after the vote; 61 seats make up a majority. The Knesset’s composition will shape which political groups can form the next government.
Separately, a Channel 12 survey of 507 people conducted Oct. 19 found that 64% said Donald Trump’s endorsement of Netanyahu would not affect their voting intentions. The poll found 17% said the endorsement made them less likely to support Likud, while 12% said it made them more likely to do so. Those results concern respondents’ views on Trump’s backing, not their response to the appeal Anadolu reported.
Israelis are scheduled to vote Tuesday, Oct. 27.
