Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow in October and since then it has been working with smartphone manufacturers to roll out the update to newer handsets.
IBTimes reported that HTC has released the Marshmallow update for HTC One M8 Google Play Edition handset and has just rolled out the update for unlocked HTC One M8 handsets in the U.S.
Mo Versi, HTC’s VP for product management, on Wednesday tweeted, “HTC One (M8) unlocked owners! Great news, all testing has been complete and the update for Marshmallow will be sent out within 24 hours. Thx”.
For the carrier versions of the M8, Versi said the company is "working with all of them closely" to get the update out "as soon as possible."
With Marshmallow already being rolled out for HTC One M8 users, it seems that HTC One M9 users will also get the upgrade within this month.
HTC announced the list of devices that will be getting the upgrade via Twitter that includes the HTC One E9, the HTC One E9+, the HTC One M9+, the HTC One ME, the HTC One M8 EYE, the HTC One E8, the HTC Desire Butterfly, the HTC Desire 826, the HTC Desire 820 and the HTC Desire 816. For the models M8 and M9, it said the update will be arriving at “beginning end of 2015”.
VC Post explains that the latest Android version will first arrive on unlocked and carrier models like the Verizon or AT&T HTC One M9 usually get it last. This is so because the carriers have a strict testing phase that all updates must successfully pass through and be approved before being released to the users.
