Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will lead G7 talks on Russia’s war on Ukraine, Haiti and artificial intelligence Monday, with hybrid threats against North America, Europe and beyond also on the agenda.
Reuters reported the Nov. 9-10 meeting was moved from Marseille to Paris, where it will coincide with the Paris Peace Forum. EconoTimes previously covered the meeting’s move from Marseille to Paris.
The agenda also includes regional developments in the Middle East, Africa and the Indo-Pacific. Anand is expected to meet counterparts individually to strengthen Canada’s relationships and discuss shared priorities, Global Affairs Canada said.
Global Affairs Canada said Anand’s visit is meant to advance Canada’s national security and foreign-policy priorities and reaffirm its commitment to multilateral cooperation. The department says the G7 offers Canada a forum to advance its sovereignty and strategic autonomy, consistent with the country’s National Security Strategy.
The group comprises the European Union, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom. Foreign ministers are scheduled to meet in Paris on Nov. 9-10.
