Anthropic’s listing for an Executive Communications Writer advertises a salary range of $295,000 to $345,000, as separate company research shows a shrinking share of junior technical hires.
The role is listed in San Francisco and New York City. Anthropic asks applicants to have at least eight years of high-level executive communications experience. Duties include preparing senior leaders for major communications moments, writing technical material for expert audiences and coordinating responses to breaking news. Under the company’s current hybrid policy, staff are expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time.
Ann Handley, chief content officer at MarketingProfs, told Business Insider: “When speed becomes cheap, judgment carries a premium.” Handley said a writer’s work can extend beyond polishing language to helping leaders decide what to communicate and how to present it.
Anthropic’s report, published Oct. 16, says junior-level employees made up 14% of technical departments, down from 21% since early 2025. The share of junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9% over the period shown. The report text does not specify the month of that latest observation.
The company said it continued adding technical staff, while hiring in sales, finance and recruiting grew faster. Anthropic attributed part of the shift to business expansion and said coding tools may allow nontechnical employees to build software. By April, about one-third of machine-learning managers and one-fifth of software-engineering managers said they were hiring less because of AI.
The report draws on internal company data and 17 employee interviews. It describes a product design team that had written copy for Claude.ai and later built a context graph to guide agents writing product content. The team then shifted toward prompting agents and evaluating models.
Anthropic’s posting describes the communications role’s responsibilities but does not name an AI use case or connect the opening to its technical hiring findings.
