Apollo Global Management on Monday launched a European credit platform with more than €10 billion in lending capacity, adding Abu Dhabi backing to its effort to finance companies and assets across the region.

The European Credit Company counts the Abu Dhabi Investment Council among its strategic partners. Apollo also named European insurer Athora, Japanese lender Norinchukin Bank, Standard Chartered and U.S. credit investor Aranda Principal Strategies as partners.

Apollo said the company invests in performing corporate and asset-backed credit. Its intended clients include companies, sponsors and owners of infrastructure and real estate assets, with financing aimed at large and mid-market opportunities.

Apollo President Jim Zelter cited financing needs tied to Europe’s energy transition, power transmission, defense and infrastructure. European Credit Company CEO Giacomo Petrobelli called the opportunity to fund the region’s long-term growth a “generational opportunity.” Christian Meissner is the company’s chairman.

The Abu Dhabi backing follows previously reported plans for an Apollo investment in Mubadala Capital. Apollo and Mubadala Capital announced an agreement Oct. 26 for Apollo to acquire a minority equity stake in the asset manager, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company. The companies expect that separate transaction to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to approvals.
