Apple’s M6 Mac updates are confirmed, while Bloomberg reports a touchscreen MacBook Pro reveal at Wednesday’s Los Angeles event, a potential shift that Apple has not confirmed.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (17:00 UTC). Apple has not said it will announce a touchscreen laptop there.

Apple announced a separate 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip on Oct. 27, starting at $1,999 in the United States. Preorders open Oct. 28, and sales begin Nov. 6. The company also announced an iMac with M6.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans MacBook Pro models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, with OLED screens and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple has not confirmed the models or specifications. EconoTimes previously covered the reported touchscreen MacBook plans.

Reuters tied Mac sales growth partly to demand from technology enthusiasts and businesses buying computers for artificial intelligence work done on the device. The outlet also said Windows PC makers have sold touch-enabled models for years, while buyers new to the market increasingly expect laptop displays to respond to touch.

Anshel Sag, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, told Reuters Apple had been wrong to resist touch, describing the development as “the long arm of reality setting in.”

Apple’s earlier public comments addressed both touch and how its devices should relate. Co-founder Steve Jobs criticized vertical touchscreens at a 2010 event on ergonomic grounds. In 2012, then-CEO Tim Cook used a toaster-and-refrigerator analogy in a discussion about combining tablets and laptops; his remark concerned product convergence rather than touch input alone.

Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak wrote on X on Oct. 19, “Can’t wait to pro and tell next week,” without naming products. Reuters framed the late-October launches as a product push before the holiday shopping season. The next scheduled step is Wednesday’s Los Angeles event; preorders for the M6 MacBook Pro also open Oct. 28.
