Apple began selling its first foldable iPhone on Oct. 23, with a U.S. entry price of $1,999 and a starting price of ₹2,99,900 in India, introducing a two-screen design to its phone lineup.
The initial rollout covers more than 70 countries and regions. Apple lists four storage configurations: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The company’s Indian starting price is for the 256GB version.
The phone has a 7.6-inch inner OLED display and a 5.4-inch outer OLED display, Apple says. Its Split View feature lets users place two apps on the inner screen at the same time. Apple has also released developer tools to help software makers adapt apps to the displays and hinge.
Hindustan Times Technology Editor Vishal Mathur said the hinge moved smoothly and the fold line was difficult to spot in typical viewing conditions. He reported that the wider layout and repositioned controls take adjustment, while some third-party apps still need changes for the two displays.
Apple lists 48-megapixel main and ultra-wide rear cameras, 2x optical-quality zoom and digital zoom up to 10x. Mathur said the lack of a separate telephoto camera limits photos of distant subjects. He also questioned whether the inner display’s nano-texture coating would hold up to ordinary use over time.
Mathur’s review unit averaged about 6.5 hours of active screen time during a week of heavy use, with the battery going from a full charge to 30% remaining. Apple has scheduled availability in 28 additional countries and regions for Oct. 30.
