Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said it contained a cyberattack and began restoring services, while blockchain investigator ZachXBT’s estimate of more than $133 million in stolen funds remains unconfirmed.
The French cooperative banking group said in a Nov. 4 statement that it had notified authorities and supervisory bodies after discovering the incident. It said the value involved is still being assessed and would not threaten its financial strength.
The bank said it paused some transactions to give teams time to review systems and strengthen protections. Some transfers were delayed, but customer assets were not affected. Checks are complete, and services are returning gradually.
ZachXBT said the intrusion lasted several days and that funds moved through crypto exchanges before being converted into stablecoins. Anadolu Agency reported his allegation that a faster alert to European authorities might have allowed them to freeze more than $30 million. The agency said it could not independently verify the scale of the reported theft.
Arkéa said it would share further information when its review supports an update.
