Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson described Democratic gains as more significant than anticipated in an NPR interview published Wednesday about victories in states the broadcaster characterized as Republican strongholds.
NPR’s Scott Detrow conducted the interview, which was published at 12:14 a.m. ET on Nov. 4.
Before the Nov. 3 vote, Queen Mary University of London lecturer Richard Johnson said Democrats could make major gains. Speaking to France 24, Johnson cited signs of stronger support among independents, white voters with college degrees and Latino voters, as well as possible defections from Donald Trump’s electoral coalition.
