BNB Chain plans to test its proposed NewL1 blockchain by the end of 2026, targeting more than 100,000 transactions per second for workloads that require a new network design.
The speed figure is a design goal, not a measured NewL1 result. BNB Chain’s July 8 technology roadmap also targets transaction preconfirmation in under 50 milliseconds and block finality in less than one second. Testing has yet to establish whether the proposed network can meet those targets.
NewL1 would operate alongside BNB Smart Chain (BSC), according to a July 14 welcome post in the NewL1 area of BNB Chain’s developer forum. The post says the networks would connect through a native bridge, BNB would serve as NewL1’s native token and no separate token is planned. NewL1 is also intended to be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine.
BNB Chain’s roadmap identifies trading, payments, privacy and artificial intelligence among the intended uses. A July 14 forum post by a user identified as zzzckck says some of those workloads require architectural changes that BSC cannot retrofit. It says BSC would continue serving its existing ecosystem while NewL1 is developed for those additional demands.
The proposed design includes TxStream, which would route transactions to a block leader without using a public pool of pending transactions. Another proposed feature, PriorityLane, would set aside block space for functions such as oracles, liquidations and bridges. These features remain part of a developing architecture.
For comparison, BNB Chain reported that BSC reached benchmark throughput of about 5,200 transactions per second following optimizations in the first half of 2026. Its roadmap cites an earlier BSC benchmark of about 2,800 transactions per second. Both results concern the existing chain and do not measure NewL1’s capacity.
BNB Chain’s next stated milestone is a NewL1 testnet by the end of 2026. It aims to launch the mainnet in early 2027.
